Current Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee Members

YF&R Competitive Events - Competitive events offer unique opportunities for members to learn about South Dakota Farm Bureau while earning recognition and prizes. The activities are a great way to learn, network and have fun.

Achievement Award – A competitive event designed to recognize those who are striving to assemble the best agriculture enterprise and those working toward excellence in the areas of personal growth and leadership development. The award highlights young Farm Bureau members’ efforts in production agriculture and leadership achievement. Participants are involved in production agriculture with a majority of their income subject to normal production risks. Competitors are judged on their farm operation and growth, the financial progress of their operation and their Farm Bureau and community leadership.

Achievement Award Application

Discussion Meet – an activity designed to build the crucial skills of discussing agriculture issues with fellow farmers and ranchers and express your ideas to help develop a solution. By participating, participants build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach a consensus and solve problems. The South Dakota Farm Bureau competition winner is eligible to complete in the National Discussion Meet. The winner of the AFBF National Discussion Meet contest receives a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500. The three finalists of the national competition will each receive a $6,000 savings bond sponsored by Stihl and a Stihl Farm Boss.

Excellence in Agriculture Award – spotlights young South Dakota Farm Bureau members who are agricultural enthusiasts but have not earned a majority of their income from an owned production agriculture enterprise in the past three years. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experience and achievement.
